USA Triathlon today announced the recipient of the Together We Thrive Black History Month Scholarship!

Brian Akamine, a USAT Level 1 Coach and High School Talent Scout with French Creek Racing, the Executive Director of the George Washington Carver Community Center, Charmaine Elizabeth Bazemore and Pastors Byron and McCray, plan to use this grant to form a black triathlon team in the Norristown Community.

The George Washington Carver Community Center is committed to enhancing the quality of life of the citizens of Norristown through its recreation, social and cultural programs. The Carver Center embraces the belief that community issues are best addressed by people with a true commitment to the community through their residence, professional affiliation, or other personal relationship with the community.

Brian plans to partner with Charmaine at the GWCC and the Norristown community at large. The GWCC currently has a swimming pool and gymnasium and Brian plans to build upon these existing triathlon training areas to purchase bike trainers and begin engaging the community in all aspects of multisport. The goal is to create local triathlon events that will expose and bring new athletes into the multisport community who may not have otherwise been able to participate.
